Agenda for the Second CACI Seminar

1. Two announcements (9:30-9:40)
· Explain how to use the online repository to submit teaching materials
· Announce readings and films for the third seminar on October 25
2. Juan Acevedo’s presentation (9:40-9:55)
· Juan will present how he plans to use China as a case to compare different regime types.
· A Q&A session will follow.
3. Group discussions (10:00-11:45)
Group 1: Professor Arthur Kroeber, Professor Immanuel Ness, David Monda, Christos Angelopoulos, Juan Corredor-Garcia, Haoju Lu, and Jun Yoo
Group 2: Professor Chen Bin, Professor Zhao Rong, Helena Najm, Hart Zhang, Karen Hui, Brendan O’Connor, and Silvina Calderaro
· Each Teaching Fellow will make a presentation (5 to 10 minutes) to reflect on motivations to incorporate China-related content into the undergraduate curriculum. Fellows can also take the opportunity to briefly outline plans to incorporate the study of China into their teaching in the fall.
· Faculty and Seminar Fellows will then comment on the presentations.
4. Future teaching plans (11:00-11:30am)
· Each Seminar Fellow will have 5 minutes to sketch what they might do in future teaching.
· We will leave some time for Q&A toward the end.
In this session, we introduced the movies that will be discussed in the following session of the seminar. This session will be used to explore ways of creating class activities that become resources to teach China contents.
Next, Juan Acevedo-Ossa shared a class activity used in one of his classes in which he taught regime type departing from a provocative discussion by an influencer.
Acevedo also introduced how to contribute materials to the repository.
Finally, fellows gathered with faculty to discuss their motivations to incorporate China-related contents in their syllabus.
