China at CUNY Travel Fellowship Summer 2025
Purpose
CACI is offering a limited number of additional fellowships for Summer 2025 to enable CUNY graduate students to visit China.
The purpose of the program is to enable CUNY graduate students who have participated in CACI to gain a first-hand experience of life in China, to meet Chinese graduate students and academics working in their fields of interest and to better understand the common concerns of young people in China and the US. It is not intended to fund a specific research project.
CACI will provide 5 former/current CACI fellows with a subsidy of $3000 towards international airfare, internal air or rail travel and accommodation, for which they will be expected to provide receipts. Fellows will be expected to cover their own food and local transportation costs.
Application process
Fellows must spend a minimum of two weeks in China.
This is not an organised study tour but CACI will help with introductions and with advice about securing visas and accommodation. Your trip should include a period (to be determined at the time of selection) during which some group activities will be organised in Beijing by the CACI team and/or our Chinese colleagues. Fellows are free to stay longer and travel to other cities if they wish.
Fellows will be expected to keep a journal recording their trip and to give a presentation on what they have learned to the Fall 2025 CACI fellows on their return.
CACI fellows of Chinese origin can apply, but priority will be given to non-Chinese fellows who have not had the opportunity to visit China before. The selection of a group that will have complementary but overlapping interests will also be a consideration.
The application form is attached. In addition to providing the information requested, we ask that you make a five-minute video explaining why you think you would benefit from this fellowship and the issues that you are interested in exploring.
