This call for applications closed on December 20, 2024. Please stay tuned for future opportunities.

This fellowship program is the next iteration of the China at CUNY Initiative (CACI). The goal is to enable GC students who are, or will be, teaching in the CUNY undergraduate colleges to develop curriculum content related to China for core and elective courses in the social sciences and history and to discuss issues related to teaching on China.

CACI is funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. For more information, click here.

The Spring 2025 fellowship will include two opportunities:

I           Teaching Fellowship

GC students who are teaching courses in Spring 2025 can apply for a fellowship of $1,500 to develop a China component to be taught in one or two classes. They will be supported in this by two faculty with China expertise (CACI Faculty Fellows) who will work with them to select readings and other teaching materials suitable for undergraduates, as well as a larger set of more in-depth materials for graduate students. Faculty Fellows will attend the class as a guest lecturer or co-teacher.  The class will be audio-recorded for later discussion with CACI Seminar Fellows.

CACI Teaching Fellows will be expected to participate in the full CACI seminar series in Spring 2025 (see below), which will include an experience-sharing session, and to provide their syllabus for inclusion on the CACI website.

II          CACI Seminar Fellowship

The Teaching Fellowship will be accompanied by a seminar series. This will be open to all GC students who are interested in learning more about China and possibly later incorporating China-related material into their courses. It will include six seminars over the course of the Spring 2025 semester. CACI will support a number of CACI Seminar Fellows to join the Teaching/Faculty Fellow teams as apprentices. In addition to attending the seminars, they will join in their planning meetings, attend the classes the Teaching Fellows teach, and write a statement of what they have learned. Seminar Fellows will receive an award of $800.
